A more then makeshift team saw Ravens go into this game with only 1 defensive player out of 6 available for selection. We had to chop and change and play people out of position against a team that we felt that we could beat regardless.
The game started at a frantic pace with Ravens taking the initiative after a good through ball by Ross Evans and a fantastic chipped finish by Kyle Moss for his 2nd in as many games.
Still creating chances a 2nd came when Matt Hennessy got the ball by the by-line and crossed which was fortunate to be turned in by a Banjaxino, you know what they say, you don’t get a letter you don’t win the scrabble! This lead was slashed in half before half time to leave it 2-1.
Ravens then came out in the second half all guns blazing and added a 3rd courtesy of good trickery by Matt Hennessy and a great finish by debutant Alex Popovic from ooh id say about 18 yards. This was then added to when Alex Popovic again timed his run to perfection and rounded the goalkeeper finishing from a tight angle.
This was now looking like a comfortable win until Banjax pulled one back thanks to a dubious penalty when the player was blown down easier then a conker in early autumn, Banjax then made it 4-3, don’t ask me how they just did.
Ravens soon turned these jeers into cheers when Kyle Moss burst through and finished another chance with great aplomb. 5-3 soon turned into 5-4 straight away after the restart.
Tim Browne then picked the ball up outside of the area to arrow a powerbolt of a shot which took a deflection of a defender, which left the goalkeeper more baffled then a complex sudoku puzzle. This was Tim’s first goal in the blue and white of Ravens and hopefully not his last. Ravens then conceded another thanks to a great shot from the edge of the box.
The game finished 6-5 thanks to some last ditch tackling from the usual strike partnership of Rob Olding and Ross Evans who moved into central defence.
This was a good victory considering all of the problems we had in the build up to the game and the surface was greasier then Juan Pablo Angels neatly groomed hair.
