Birmingham Medics 2

The last game and what a season it’s been.  We were happy to be playing the Medics, as last time we enjoyed a really good fair and clean game.  Within 1 minute and half, Kiren shoots and it’s deflected back to Tracy who also shoots, but the keeper fumbles the ball, Faye followed it up and scored, but alas she was in an offside position before she went for the ball and it was disallowed by substitute and lineswomen Susan.  Tyler was filling in as sweeper, for Joanne Parkes who was on the sidelines in her plaster.  Amy Holland and Gabriella Zentilin, were the full backs replacing Gabriel who was also on the sidelines in a plaster cast, like I said earlier it’s been one of ‘those’ seasons.  Tipton were lethargic and drained from a tough timetable of matches over the last couple of weeks.  With the end of season looming it was a tough ask to get them all finished.  We played some great football, but did allow the Medics to get a bit too close, but the defence and Lorraine in goal worked well to keep them at bay until 18.5 minutes.  Amy Lee bundled a Medics player over and conceded a free kick, which was well taken, Claire jumped for it, but just missed it and it bounced passed Lorraine to give Medics a 1-0 lead.  Kiren responded straight away by going on a crusade, but sharp lineswomen called her offside.  We started playing brighter football and were getting more chances.  But we were still allowing Medics to get too close for comfort.  Joanna and Amy won crucial throw ins gaining valuable yards.  Gabriella then threw a great ball into a den of Medics, which was played back immediately to her and she launched the ball across the pitch were Sian was waiting and chipped the keeper to level the scores.  Within a minute of kick off Medics concede a free kick just inside our half and Gabriella steps up to launch the ball neatly in front of the forwards, a lucky deflection meant it fell right into Kiren’s path who finished it with ease to put us into the lead.  The Gaffa took a blow to the face making her nose bleed and giving her a black eye, but she was a soldier and played on.  But she finished off the half with a decent effort at goal.  We allowed the Medics in a few more times and Lorraine saved the day, to protect our marginal lead.
Second half and Susan came on for Gaffa who squeezed into her top to then run the line...hilarious! Tipton only had 45 minutes left to play of the season and even though the legs were tired, Gabriella ran back and forth and is shaping up to be as impressive a full back as Ashley Cole.  She linked up well with Joanna on the wing and Amy Lee cleaned up if it didn’t quite work, shaping up our left hand side to be on par with our right.  We allowed Medics to make a fantastic cross into the box, but luckily reserve Keeper Lorraine sorted it out.  At 60 minutes in, Medics play a through ball to run onto to, which Tyler managed to track half a pitch to eventually deflect the shot on goal.  A ball played in from the corner was smacked  at Amy Holland’s face, who then dropped to the floor, we all called for a stoppage for the head injury, but the Medics carried on and scored.  The goal was allowed.  Shelley came on for Claire, whilst Tipton upped the pace to try and nick a win to top off the season and our football improves as a result.  Sian has a near miss at 74 minutes and this was the start of Tipton’s gauntlet.  It wasn’t over for the Tipton defence Tyler made another important clearance to keep us in the game.  Tracy comes off for the Gaffa to play the last 15 minutes.   She puts a brilliant cross in, which Kiren flicks at one of the Medics hands, the referee didn’t give a penalty, so Susan shot but it was dealt comfortably by the keeper.  With only 8 minutes to go, the referee spotted a handball and awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard box.  Gabriella asked for it and true to good free kick taking form she buried it in the back of the net, giving Tipton the lead.  Medics concede another couple of free kicks for fouls as we press for more.  But alas the whistle blows to seal the end of our first premier season.  In true end of the season tradition, the Gaffa and Wongy drenched the girls with the fizzy stuff.
